LISTEN TO THE TREES:

KEEP ON WISHING:

Many of our pagan ancestors knew the language of trees and of the earth, and could communicate with them. Sacred groves were protected everywhere by custom in ancient Europe until Christians cut them down. Groves of trees are sacred, living temples, which support the web of life. Every system of enlightenment seems to require confinement, isolation, sensory deprivation, and stillness to receive the treasure of the Tree of Knowledge. Every spiritual path needs a teacher, and the sacred Tree, was perhaps, the greatest of all. We are moving too fast today, to hear what the earth and the trees have to tell us. However, a couple of hours of quiet sitting beneath a tree can yield unexpected and sweet spiritual treasure. During that time, subtle seeds from the tree embed deeply in the soul, to develop and bloom when ready.

WISHES FOR THE WOODLAND

A WISH FOR THE WYTCH TREE:

The Wrekin Wytch Tree as it is now known; also referred to as a Rag, Wish, or more traditionally a Clootie Tree; lives near a Sacred Ochre Spring (in Black Hayes) just up stream in the enchanted grove of Short Wood (in what’s left of the original Ancient Wrekin Forest).
..

THW WYTCH TREE:

..

Unfortunately, according to the plans of U.K. Coal (the proposed development of the Huntington and Greenfields site) the Wytch Tree appears to be sited in the middle of an intended haulage road.
..

SHORTWOOD, BLUEBELL WOODS, BLACK HAYES, WASTELAND?

The ‘Wrekin’ land is steeped in local myth and folklore, the Celtic (pagan) Cornovi tribe who were the first residents of this prehistoric Mountain, (called Mountain of Gilbert amongst its other names); the ‘Wrekin;’ once raised their armies at its feet to fight the Romans, led by their legendary Queen Boudicca.
..

THE SHORTWOOD GROVE:

..

This particular Wytch Tree is a relatively young Hawthorne (only about 25 years old), which would have been a tree (along with Ash and Whitethorn) traditionally chosen by the Druids (the spiritual leader of the Celtic peoples) as part of their Sacred Grove (their Church; place of worship) and would have been revered for its protective, healing attributes.
..

THE OLD MAN OAK:

..

The Wytch Tree along with many other majestic and beautiful old trees(which has been labled as a piece of wasteland by UK Coal?), resides in the Shortwood , a Sacred Grove of the above mentioned Ochre Spring; or ‘Red Spring’ (named after the rust or iron oxide pigment found naturally in the water); and used in the past by local famers to mark and brand their herds of sheep. Furthermore, their disappearance (if the plans for the open Cast Coal mine go ahead) would mean yet another piece of valuable history gone, and the Springs themselves are most probably the source of the original healing pools associated with the now lost Cornovi Temple of Celtic Goddess Andraste ( a Pagan Goddess of death and rebirth) whose waters were once venerated in medieval times for there curative properties.

..

WISHES:

..

In Celtic nomenclature, a ‘Clootie’ or ‘Cloot’, ‘Clought’ or even ‘Cloughtie’ is a strip of cloth, ribbon or rag; generally dipped in the water of the Spring and then offered to the Tree; or maybe a Pagan deity or venerated Saint, where the operative principle is to shed an ailment, and the clootie is thought to represent that ailment and as the rag disintegrates over time, the ailment is supposed to fade away as well. Another variation of this practice is the Wish Tree, where votive offerings are hung on the branches or deposited in the Holy Well or Sacred Spring. These may include an offering of a coin, pin, stone or often charms, rosaries, medals, crosses, religious icons and other symbols of faith.
..

MANY WISHES:

Please make a wish to save our ancient Forest…a rag and mp can be provided (please contact me for details), it also shows the vast extent of land proposed to be developed, along with its Sacred Springs, burial mounds, Bluebell Woodlands, archaeological remains of the Roman Hill fort and so much more…

WOODLANDS TODAY:

MAYBE WOODLANDS IN TOMORROW?

..

GET THE PICTURE:

When people argue that the use of coal and other fossil fuels is still cheaper than renewable energy they usually (and conveniently) fail to mention the external costs of fossil fuels that aren't factored into the price of burning of these dirty fuels.

"... fossil fuels remain cheaper because not all their costs are tallied—and that means pollution. Traditional power plants spew particulates into the air as well as carbon dioxide, but historically the cost of that pollution was not included in the pricetag for, say, operating a coal-fired plant."

..

CLEAN COAL POWER STATION:

..

Coal-burning power plants account for most of the CO2 in the atmosphere. This fact makes some people insist that coal-burning power plants should be forbidden. Period. Other people say we can't do that because we don't have enough capacity to generate the power we want in other ways. Coal burning power plants generate over 50% of our electricity. On the pro-coal side of the issue, people argue that since we are so dependent on coal, we should find a way to live with it, and promote the idea of clean coal as that way.

..

OPEN CAST MINING PROCESS:

..

DOES IT STILL WARM OUR HEARTS?

We know what coal is. It's black, it's dirty, it has to be dug from the ground, and when its burned it creates stinky black smoke. The dust from coal mines gives miners lung disease, the the smoke from burning coal does the same thing to anyone who breathes it. Digging the stuff out of the ground topples mountains, gouges great gaping holes in the earth and leaves devastation in its wake. There's also a little matter of coal ash.
..

WILL YOU OR YOUR CHILDREN SEE, THE TREES AGAIN?

..

CLEAN COAL:

Some political and industrial leaders throw out the term clean coal with great optimism. But can coal be clean? We used to be satisfied with simply taking the sulfur dioxide out of the smoke to prevent acid rain. Now we want to remove the carbon dioxide as well. The plan for doing that is to separate out the carbon dioxide and "sequester" it in storage facilities under the ground. We would still have the CO2, we would just stash it away from the atmosphere.

..

CLEAN COAL?

..

IF COAL IS SO CLEAN, WHY IS IT STILL CAUSING BLACK LUNG?

'Three more retired coal miners died of black lung today.'said the Washington Post. Over 105,000 Americans have suffered and died from black lung related diseases; 10,000 miners, according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, have died from black lung in the last decade. Shall we just repeat the statistics set by our American brothers over the Sea.

LAST TREE PROVERB: by Native Indian Cree

Only when the last tree has been cut down
Only when the last river has been poisoned
Only when the last fish has been caught
Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.

A FREE MAN'S LIFE:

"What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty and democracy?" ; "When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall — think of it, always." ; "Be the change you want to see in the world." Mohandas Gandhi.

WHEN DO WE SAY ITS TIME TO CHANGE?
